Introduction:Overseas Chinese Homecoming Party from Kobe, Japan, presented this gift on October 31, 1966. The treasure boat is set in a glass display case, which on the obverse, is mounted three plaques. The middle plaque is inscribed with celebratory words "Smooth Sailing," a dedication "In celebration of President Chiang Kai-shek's 80th birthday," and in the lower part, "Respectfully, Overseas Chinese Homecoming Party from Kobe, Japan." The sterling silver treasure boat is finely carved with a bell-shaped bow. The sail is embroidered with the Chinese character of "Treasure" set off by golden clouds. The hull is filled up with gold, silver, and jewelry. The gold coin, a symbol of treasure, is inscribed with Japanese (one thousand taels). In addition, there are elements symbolizing the blessings of good fortune, prosperity, and longevity. Japanese love to give friends "treasure boats" as gifts to bless that good fortune, prosperity, and longevity are coming riding the waves. Therefore, there are particularly more than one similar silver treasure boat in our collection.
There were a lot of overseas Chinese living in Kobe area. Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary cause had its historical origins in Kobe. He had ever been to Kobe 18 times and won the supports of all sectors there. Mr. Chiang Kai-shek had had been to Kobe as well and left precious photos taken at Arima Onsen (Hot Springs). Until now, overseas Chinese living in Kobe still venerate the two great Chinese men.
